Kinesio Tape was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase, a well-known Chiropractor and Acupuncturist, who practices in the US and in Japan. The strategic design helps to facilitate the body's natural healing process while giving support and stability to the muscles, joints and ligaments without restricting the body's range of motion.
Kinesio tape has a texture, weight and elasticity that is very close to the human skin. The tape is designed to tape around the muscles to achieve joint stability without joint immobility. When applied to the skin, Kinesio tape pulls the upper layers of the skin which creates a space between the dermis and the muscle. This space is believed to help relieve pressure on the lymphatic system, which allows a better lymph drainage through the affected area. This space in between the dermis and muscles also houses various nerve receptors that send information to the brain. During an injury the space is compressed with swelling, which in turn sends information to the brain showing constant touch, pressure, heat and pain. This causes the brain to send out certain signals to the body on how to react. Kinesio tape alters the information that is sent to the brain and causes a less reactive response to the affected area and helps the body to work normally, which speeds up the healing process.
Here ar a few reasons to use Kinesio Tape:
- Re-educate the neuromuscular system
- Reduce Pain
- Promote Healing
- Optimize performance
- Prevent Injury
- Promote improved circulation
- Promote proper lymphatic drainage
- Promote support against gravity
- To Decrease stress on the tendons and ligaments
